DESTINATION

MONTENEGRO

Lord Byron once wrote:
"At the moment of the creation of the planet, the most beautiful merging of land and sea occurred on the Montenegrin coast..."

240 SUNNY DAYS

Despite its small size, Montenegro is rich in natural beauty, historical landmarks, and sunny weather for almost the entire year. It is a country full of contrasts. Within a distance of just 100 kilometers, there are three different natural environments: the coast, karst landscape, and high mountain regions. Tourists have the opportunity to swim in the sea, raft on rivers, hike in the mountains, or ski on the mountain - all in one day.

Although it is classified as a Mediterranean country, Montenegro is also a mountainous country where areas above 1,000 meters above sea level occupy as much as 60.5% of its territory. Its territory represents a wealth of relief of a place unmatched in the world. The Montenegrin mountain range, which stretches from Maglic, Volujak, and Bioc in the west to Prokletije in the east, intersected by magnificent canyons of Piva, Komarnica, Susica, Tara, and Moraca, adorned with over 35 picturesque lakes, represents one of the most attractive and ecologically preserved mountain regions in the Balkans and Europe.

BEAUTIFUL BEACHES

The three hundred kilometers of Adriatic coast is a jewel in Montenegro's natural beauty. The beaches are pebbly, sandy or rocky, ranging in length from just a few meters to hundreds of meters or kilometers. Some are secluded - far from populated areas, while others are right in front of the central city promenade or your hotel. Some face rough waves towards the open sea, while others are sheltered in calm waters of picturesque bays. Some are gentle and easily accessible, while others are wild, isolated, and inaccessible, only reachable by boat. Some are deserted, romantic, and solitary, while others are lively and crowded with a variety of events and activities.

UNTOUCHED NATURE

Recognizing the importance and size of this wealth, the Montenegrin Parliament declared Montenegro an ecological state in 1988. Thus, the state became a protector of the untouched natural kingdom. At the UNCED conference (Brazil 1992), Montenegro was declared the world's first ecological state. Protected natural and cultural resources cover 10% of the total territory. Five national parks, protected forest systems, authentic natural complexes, unpolluted water, clean air, over 50 protected plant and 320 animal species make an extraordinary foundation for further tourism development. Almost a quarter of the total European flora can be found in this area. Montenegro is also a country of natural rarities, one of two primeval forests in Europe (Biogradska Gora), the southernmost and most beautiful bay of glacial origin in the world (Boka Kotorska Bay), the deepest and longest river canyon in the world after Colorado (Tara River Canyon), the largest and most characteristic lake in this part of Europe (Skadar Lake), and the cleanest river in Europe (Tara River). Durmitor National Park and the city of Kotor are on the UNESCO World Heritage List of cultural and natural heritage.
